Fake cake

March 25, 2010

This photo, taken in a New Zealand supermarket, is dedicated to Fi Fi because I know the fake cake horror will thrill her so.  NZ trip was very swift and I had to be all grown-up and professional for much of it, which was tiresome.

Thank you all for moth-related condolences. I’m home now and will dedicate next two weekends to MOTH GENOCIDE. Die, you buggers, DIE.

Holey moley

March 20, 2010

What’s this?

This is a clothing moth larva chowing down on some felt.

Why do I show it to you?

Because I discovered a flippin’ INFESTATION of these moths all through our house today. They’re in everything… clothes, drawers, carpets, stored blankets, crafty wool…

I have found several bits of clothing with holes and bald patches. I’m grieving for the big woolly bear coat I’ve had for a decade and the Curmudgeon had been wearing with dashing handsomeness. It has a huge bald patch right on the front now.

We spent today washing every wool item I could, vacuuming, opening cupboards….

Blah. The chances of getting rid of them completely are pretty slim.

Teatstools

March 16, 2010

These wee toadstools, looking for all the world like a cluster of boobies, popped up overnight. How rude!

Mushbosooms. Toadboobs.

More hanging… almost

March 14, 2010

This project only took five years to do.

I bought this card game called AugeNaseMund from an indie bookshop in Munich in 2005. They were local artists and I loved it to bits. I didn’t buy many souvenirs on that overseas trip, but this one was a must-have. (Although now I see it’s on Amazon and you don’t need to go to Germany to buy one. But I did. So mine’s always going to be cooler.) I thought, “One day I’ll frame those.”

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago when I was walking the dog at 7am and spotted a HUGE, can I say again, GIMONGOUS frame in an alley, cast out of someone’s abode. I can understand why. The frame was gold and the contents were excreble – print of big loud brighly-coloured tulips done in oil pastel. I would have thought it was really cool in about 1993. So I hauled it home, with a lot of difficulty, and with protestations by the dog on the way and from the Curmudgeon when I got it home.

I was sick of tripping over it so this afternoon I pulled it apart (anyone want the tulips? No? Didn’t think so), painted the frame red, glued down all the cards and framed them. It looks ACE. And will look ACER, when I take the next step, and hang it. Give it another six months to a year, I reckon.

New favourite blog

March 10, 2010

Go have a look at Mr. New Boyfriend. It’s a blog featuring nothing but pictures of Bruce, the mini bull terrier puppy.

But really, what more does a blog need?

We wuz hanged!

March 10, 2010

In an uncharacteristic spurt of competence, we hung (hanged?) those there framed pics. Looks noice, eh? Like those little fish coasters? They were a nifty gifty from Vetti. And the little pic of the two squids is because, well, I’m obsessed with squids.

Snail

March 8, 2010

Me: “Hey, there’s  a snail. Imagine if you had eyes on stalks that could be retracted into your head.”

He: “I do. I just keep them retracted.”
